Suspicious Devices Found on Power Lines in Tyngsborough

FBI ShieldTYNGSBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Devices that authorities say looked like pipe bombs but were not explosive have been found hanging from power lines in Massachusetts.

Harold Shaw, special agent in charge of the Boston FBI division, says the devices were found Wednesday when the Tyngsborough Fire Department responded to a brush fire. Shaw says crews noticed the items and alerted National Grid. The power company then alerted law enforcement.

Shaw says multiple incendiary devices “similar in structure to pipe bombs” were found on the lines.

The FBI said Thursday the devices didn’t have the components necessary to cause an explosion.

Shaw says at this point there is no evidence tying the devices to terrorism and that law enforcement agencies and utility companies across the country have been notified.
