Swath of Santas Gather in Yarmouth for a Cause

KA_Yarmouth_Santa Conference_day_irish village lunch_santas_christmas_042916022SOUTH YARMOUTH – Passersby on Route 28 yesterday may have thought the North Pole got relocated.

Over 60 Santas, part of the group North East Santas, spread holiday cheer and raised money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

The 12th annual North East Santas Gathering on Cape Cod also made a pit stop at the local inflatable park – before taking a “sleigh ride” over to the Cape Cod Irish Village to dine with local families.

One such Santa (alius: “Scott Calkin”), known as the Cape Cod Santa, said it was also a growth experience for those who don the old suit each year.

A set of workshops, held earlier in the day, showed the men how to take care of their beards, work with special needs children and other tasks.

“You look around and see all these other Santas and the experience they’ve had, and you just say ‘wow,’” Calkin said. “Some of them just do unbelievable things, and that’s what I strive for – I’m looking forward to being the best Santa that I can.”

The lunch was followed by a parade of Santas which began at the Irish Village.
