Symphony Set For Special Performance Marking Barnstable’s 375th

barnstable 375BARNSTABLE – As part of the Town of Barnstable’s celebration of its 375th anniversary, a major concert entitled, “A Noteworthy Evening of Celebration” featuring the Cape Symphony will serve as one of the highlights of the year’s events.

The Symphony is set to put on a performance featuring a specially composed piece of music.

Attendees will hear the world debut of the “Seven Faces of a Stone,” composer Brett Abigaña’s exquisite musical tribute to the seven villages of Barnstable.

Cape Symphony Artistic Director and Conductor Jung-Ho Pak said it’s an amazing piece.

“It’s a monumental work. It’s a piece that tells the story of the history and the character  of the various villages in the town of Barnstable,” he said.

In addition, Siobhan Magnus, American Idol finalist from Marstons Mills, and Grammy nominated jazz artist, Kate McGarry are coming “home” to take the audience Somewhere Over the Rainbow with music like When You Believe, Danny Boy, All My Tomorrows, and Magnus’s special version of  Old Cape Cod.

Guests will also hear from hometown poets, writers and actors and learn of other artists who have made contributions to Barnstable’s rich history.

The concert is scheduled for Sunday September 21 at 8 p.m. at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center at Barnstable High School. Tickets are $25.

Earlier in the day on Sunday will be the Town Picnic on the Hyannis Village Green. The picnic will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Food includes burgers, hot dogs, chips and cake for the first 2, 500 attendees. Activities include ‘old-fashioned’ games and a variety of craft projects as well as Trevor the Juggler, face painters and even a Town Crier.

Background music will be provided by the Barnstable Town Band
