Tesla Powerwall Battery Project on Nantucket Receives $1.25M in Grant Funding

NANTUCKET – National Grid sponsored and supported projects throughout Massachusetts recently received over $4.5 million in energy storage grant funding, including one on Nantucket.

In a partnership with the town Tesla was awarded $1.25 million from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center to fund a 2.5MW/6.75MWh lithium ion battery energy storage project.

Tesla will install an aggregated system of its Powerwall home battery at 500 residences on the island.

The project is separate from and an addition to National Grid’s announced 48 megawatt-hour battery Tesla energy storage system on Nantucket.

A Tesla Powerwall battery can provide power to a home for up to a week during an outage and can also be recharged with solar panels.
