BUZZARDS BAY – The Cape Cod Military Support Foundation will be collecting toys for their annual Operation Santa Claus campaign to provide for children of active duty military families assigned to Joint Base Cape Cod.

Operation Santa Claus and the foundation’s holiday meals program, provides food, gifts for toddlers to teens and a special Children’s Holiday Party for military and Coast Guard service members.

Each year, up to 900 local children receive toys, can choose a gift for their parents, and enjoy pony rides, a petting zoo, food and pictures with Santa.

The organization aims to ease stress on military families, particularly when a member is deployed overseas.

“These positive memories may be what helps get them through the next deployment or risky mission and come home safe,” said foundation President Don Cox,

“These children deal with the stress of one or more parents risking their lives, being gone for long duty hours, deployments etc. We want to bring some holiday cheer to these families.”

The event is made possible by the generous donations of new unwrapped toys, gifts, decorations, wrapping paper, and funding from individuals, grants, and businesses.

The Cape Cod Military Support Foundation has collection boxes at businesses and fire stations throughout the Cape, for a full list visit CapeCodMilitaryFoundation.org.
