The Cape Cod National Seashore Reminds Visitors of Beach Safety

KA_Eastham_before the overwash erosion_seashore_Winter 2016EASTHAM – The Cape Cod National Seashore is reminding visitors about beach safety as the seashore’s lifeguards end their season on Monday.

With seals as the major prey for great white sharks, as the seal population increases, so has the number for great white sharks.

Confirmed reports this summer have shown that there have been sharks feeding on seals close to shore and sightings near swimming beaches.

Seashore officials are asking the public to not swim near seals, do not swim alone, and call 911 in case of any emergency.

Shark advisory signs for beaches have been posted and educational materials and safety tips for beach users is available at nps.gov.
