HARWICH – The Family Pantry of Cape Cod has launched their “Shop for the Hungry Campaign”.

The effort hopes to raise $1 million to pay off the Second Glance Thrift Shop mortgage, renovate the space and establish a Building Maintenance Fund.

“By retiring that debt, that frees up more money for us to basically just provide more food and clothing for the Cape families that we serve,” said Family Pantry of Cape Cod Executive Director Christine Menard.

Revenue from the Thrift Shop supports the Pantry in feeding and clothing more than 9,000 people annually.

In 2015, the Pantry distributed $3.5 million in clothing to Cape Cod individuals and families in need.

The Pantry has already raised over 25 percent of the goal in gifts and pledges.

Recently the Pantry purchased a building for the Second Glance Thrift Shop in West Harwich, as their last location was being torn down.

Ten percent of families, children and senior citizens on the Cape do not know where their next meal is coming from, according to the Pantry.

“Every dollar that we do get from this campaign provides four meals, so every dollar that we get we can translate into four meals for those in need,” said Menard.

The Family Pantry of Cape Cod was founded in 1989 and is the largest food pantry on the Cape, serving over 1,200 families a month.
