The Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Cape Cod Wraps up “Blitz Build”

BREWSTER – In a continued effort to bring awareness to the affordable housing crisis on Cape Cod, the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Cape Cod (HBRACC) wrapped up their 4th “Habitat for Humanity Home Builders Blitz,” yesterday in Brewster.

The Blitz is an event in which over 100 members of the Home Builders and Remodelers Association come together to build a house in one week from frame to finish.

“Every other year the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Cape Cod does a “Blitz Build” on a Habitat home, an affordable home, adding to what we do one a regular basis,” said Wendy Cullinan, Director of Resource Development for Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod.

This year the Blitz took place starting on Monday, September 16th and finished up yesterday, Friday, September 20th.

The 2019 Blitz house, a two-story, three bedroom Cape, is one of eight affordable homes being constructed in the second phase of a 14-home subdivision, developed by Habitat for Humanity on Paul Hush Way.

“Habitat on Cape Cod has built over 140 homes, right now we are working on these 8 on Paul Hush Way,” continued Cullinan.

“When we finish we will have a neighborhood of 14 affordable homes in the town of Brewster.”

The land was purchased with funding from the Town of Brewster Community Preservation Act Funds.

A block party was also held yesterday along with a home dedication ceremony for the Ortiz family, who will now live their permanently.

Members and friends of the HBRACC successfully completed their first “Blitz Build” for Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod in 2013 in Orleans, the second in 2015 in Harwich, and the third in Brewster in 2017.
