Thomas McGowan Fund for Animals Awards $45K in Local Grants

SOUTH YARMOUTH – The Thomas C. McGowan Fund for Animals of the Cape Cod Foundation recently awarded $45,000 in grants to 11 local nonprofits to support domesticated animals and wildlife.

The fund was established to support initiatives that focused on medical treatment, spaying and neutering, the prevention of cruelty to animals, and education programs.

This year’s recipients are:

Animal Rescue League of Boston, $5,000
To support special outside veterinary care for animals in the Brewster shelter.

Cape Wildlife Center, $5,000
To support its hospital and education initiatives.

Center for Coastal Studies, $5,000
To support the Marine Animal Rescue Program.

Mass Audubon Wellfleet Bay Sanctuary, $2,500
To support the Northern diamondback terrapin conservation program.

Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA), $5,000
To provide financial assistance to pet owners who cannot afford spay/neuter services at the Centerville shelter.

Nantucket Island Safe Harbor for Animals, $3,000
To support animal medical care.

New England Society for Abandoned Animals, $2,500
To support spay/neuter services.

People for Cats, $2,500
To support spay/neuter services.

Sampson Fund for Veterinary Care, $7,000
To provide financial assistance to pet owners who cannot afford rehabilitative treatment for their critically ill or injured dogs and cats, particularly in life-threatening cases.

Second Chance Animal Rescue, $2,500
To support spay/neuter services on Martha’s Vineyard.

Wild Care, $5,000
To support the Critical Care Clinic and Wildlife Nursery.
