Thousands Expected at 10th Annual StriperFest on Saturday

fishing boatHYANNIS – What is being called “the biggest fishing party in the Northeast” takes place on Saturday at Bigelow Marine Park in Falmouth.

The 10th annual StriperFest is expected to bring thousands to the area for live music, boat demo rides and fishing-related activities.

On the Water magazine’s 2015 Striper Cup competition started in May and ended last week and the event marks the end of the tournament.

Fishermen from New Jersey to Maine have competed in the striped bass fishing tournament, where they could win weekly, monthly and grand prizes.

“This has been a great way to get fishermen who probably, normally wouldn’t interact, to get together and share their fishing tales and techniques and have a good time,” said On the Water editor Kevin Blinkoff.

At StriperFest, a 22-foot Striper boat and Simrad electronics will be available to win and the Striper Cup will be presented during an awards ceremony to the winning fishing team.

Attendees at the event will learn fishing techniques, participate in casting competitions and watch demonstrations.

“It’s a great time of year to be on Cape Cod as everyone knows, so we have fishermen that travel in. They can spend the weekend, maybe do some fishing, get to the Cape Cod Canal. It’s a good time of year for catching striped bass, and then in the afternoon, come down and join us for a good party,” said Blinkoff.

StriperFest runs Saturday from noon to 6:30 p.m. and tickets are $10 but free for children younger than 17 years old.
