BOSTON – In a Patriots’ Day tradition, more than 30,000 runners will participate in the annual running of the Boston Marathon.

Thousands are expected to line the streets from Hopkinton to Boston to cheer the runners on. Security will be tight along the 26.2 mile route.

The 121st edition begins at 8:50 with the mobility impaired division. The elite women depart Hopkinton at 9:30, with the elite men starting at 10 a.m. The bulk of the field will start in four waves, starting at 10 a.m.

The Boston Marathon is longest-running annual marathon in the world, dating back to 1897.
