Thousands To Line Streets For Annual Cape Cod St. Patrick’s Parade

Saint Patrick's Parade 030815YARMOUTH – Route 28 in Yarmouth will be a sea of green Saturday.

The 11th annual Cape Cod St. Patrick’s Parade features dozens of floats, marching bands from all over New England, antique cars, Irish Step Dancers and family entertainment.

Parade Committee Member Tom McCormaic said the event is a boost for local businesses.

“It’s a big event now, it’s a big financial shot in the arm to a lot of businesses down there coming out of the winter, which before the parade, there was nothing there, there was no money coming in,” said McCormaic.

The grand marshal for this year’s parade is Carolina Panthers Defensive End Ryan Delaire.

The route begins at Bass River Sports World at the intersection of Long Pond Drive and Route 28 in South Yarmouth at 11 a.m. and follows Route 28 west over the Parker’s River Bridge.

The two mile route will end at The Town N’ Country Motel.

Trolleys will transport parade goers between restaurants and establishments along the parade route throughout the day and complimentary taxi service will be provided that night.

The parade attracts people from Boston and Hartford, Connecticut because the event is smaller and more intimate, according to McCormaic.

“The Boston parade’s maybe too big, whereas down here is the perfect size, perfect route, nice family atmosphere, the hotels are right there,” said McCormaic.
