Three Groups Combine To End Plastic Pollution

BARNSTABLE – Three nonprofit groups on Cape Cod are looking for volunteers to raise public awareness of the effort to limit the production, purchase and distribution of plastic bottles and straws.

They will hand out flyers, detailing the effects plastics have on the environment, wildlife and public health, at all transfer stations in Barnstable County.  This will take place on April 22nd which is Earth Day.

It is estimated that around 500 million straws are used and disposed of on a daily basis.  About 30 billion plastic bottles are purchased every year with around 80% ending up in landfills or the ocean.

The three groups are Cape Cod’s Women’s International league for Peace and Freedom, CARE and Sustainable Practices.
