Tisbury Seeks Permit from Army Corps to Dredge Lake Tashmoo Channel

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

TISBURY – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is accepting public comment on a proposed dredging permit for Lake Tashmoo Channel in Tisbury.

The 10 year-permit seeks to dredge 25,000 cubic yards of material from the channel and Vineyard Sound to be placed on an adjacent town beach for nourishment.

The permit would allow for dredging 5,000 cubic yards every other year.

Sediment not suitable for beach nourishment will be transported to an upland location to be approved by the Army Corps.

The town also seeks to dredge 500 cubic yards of material from 5,600 square feet of subtidal habitat at the Town Landing next to Lake Street. The project would take 100 cubic yards from the area every other year for 10 years.

The dredged material will be used as beach nourishment at the Vineyard Sound location.

A public notice with specifics on the proposed work by the town can be viewed at the Corps website at www.nae.usace.army.mil/missions/regulatory/publicnotices.aspx.

Public comments will be accepted through August 17. Comments can be sent to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District, Regulatory Division (ATTN: Joshua Helms), 696 Virginia Road, Concord, MA 01742-2751.

Additional information is available from Permit Project Manager Joshua Helms at 978-318-8211 or toll free at 800-343-4789 or 800-362-4367 (if calling from within Massachusetts), or by email to [email protected].
