BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts voters who want to cast their ballots early have to act quickly.
The state’s first-ever early voting period ends Friday.
Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin has asked local election officials to extend early voting hours to at least 5 p.m.
Galvin said some communities close town offices early on Friday, while others have regular hours that end before 5 p.m.
As of Thursday, about 800,000 voters had already used the early voting period to bank their ballot ahead of Tuesday’s election. In Barnstable. 17.5 percent of all voters had cast their ballots. 26 percent of voters in Dennis have gone to the polls.
Voters can still apply for absentee ballots until noon on Monday if they won’t be in their home community during the 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. polling hours on Election Day.
