Tourism Booming in Provincetown, Figures Up Across The Board

KA_Provincetown_Ptown_Sunny Street Commercial_11315PROVINCETOWN – Tourism is booming in Provincetown, with business owners and the town reaping the benefits.

Town tourism officials presented numbers to selectmen this month, highlighting their strong year last year and a strong start to this fiscal year.

Room revenues were up over 7 percent in fiscal year 2015, generating over $33 million, up from $30 million the previous year.

“We already know that our numbers were up in our first quarter of 2016, which began on July 1st,” said Provincetown Director of Tourism Tony Fuccillo. “We’re very enthusiastic about how this fiscal year 2016 will land for us.”

Fuccillo said the increase in activity has been across the board recently. Room occupancy tax revenue, meals tax revenue, and parking revenue have all increase.

The fall proved extremely busy, according to Fuccillo, who said some anecdotal returns from a few retailers suggest they may have even had stronger weekends around Halloween and Thanksgiving than the Fourth of July.

“Everyone is feeling very, very positive about this past summer, and they said this fall has been just as exciting for them because business has been good and traffic has been great here in town,” Fuccillo said.

The town’s tourism website has generated over 15 million hits in the first ten months of this year.
