Tourism Officials Predict Strong Summer Season

cape cod genericCENTERVILLE – Memorial Day Weekend is the official start of summer on Cape Cod and the Islands and Cape Chamber of Commerce officials say all signs show this will be a banner season.

“Chamber members are reporting really strong advance bookings. We’ve had over 180,000 visitors to our travel website since April 1,” Kristen Mitchell-Hughes, Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce Vice President of Marketing, said.

Mitchell credited spring-like weather in recent weeks with helping to increase bookings.

“Good weather just puts people in a good mood,” she said.

Mitchell-Hughes said the Cape Flyer’s seasonal train service from Boston starting Friday, May 23, and the airline Jet Blue’s service from New York City starting in late June also bode well for this summer’s tourist season.

“Consumer confidence is on the rise and it seems to be having a positive impact on the travel industy,” she said.
