BOURNE- A special session will be held in Bourne on June 4 to discuss the possibility of re-opening the town’s construction-debris center.
Officials are requesting a transfer of $500,000 – $600,000 to re-open that part of the landfill facility after it was closed after a budget shortfall.
According to records, in FY 2017, the solid waste department collected more than $13 million dollars in money, which was more than $2.7 million than expenses. But as it stands, there is a need to transfer funds from other parts of the operation to re-open the facility.
As it stands now, contractors will bring raw materials to the department, which will then be re-packaged and then brought to a processing center. This process though has become costly for the town, thus prompting them to look for other options.
Currently, there is no way for the DPW to tap into emergency funding to help fix this deficit, forcing the issue to go to town meeting.
