Town Neck Beach Opens In Time for Holiday Weekend

SANDWICH – Just in time for Memorial Day weekend, Sandwich officials have reopened Town Neck Beach.

The beach had been closed due to damage caused by severe winter weather, especially the first March nor’easter.

Sandwich Town Manager Bud Dunham said the beach reopened after repairs to the walkover stairs were recently finished.

Temporary repairs to the boardwalk got underway this week.

“They are slated to be done when school lets out later in June,” Dunham said.

A portable bathroom is also expected to be installed within the next few weeks.

“All the infrastructure that has to go in the ground is in,” Dunham said. “The only thing we are waiting for is Eversource and the power.”

The bathroom unit has already been delivered to the town and it is being stored at another location until it is ready to be installed.

Dunham hopes the repairs this spring last a few summers before the boardwalk can be completely reconstructed.

“We were fortunate enough to get the support of the public and town meeting for a larger amount of money to comepletely rehabilitate and construct the boardwalk,” Dunham said. “That is at least two years away.”
