SANDWICH – Town Neck Beach in Sandwich is now open.

The public beach had been closed while crews worked on a $3 million renourishment project to rebuild the dunes with materials dredged from the Cape Cod Canal.

Beach grass was also planted on the dunes and two new sets of stairs leading to the beach were built before endangered piping plovers arrived for the season.

Signage will be posted to remind visitors to stay off the dunes and only appropriate walkways should be used to access the beach.

The installation of fencing may cause closures over the next few weeks.
