HYANNIS – Barnstable’s Planning and Development Department is updating the town’s Open Space and Recreation plan and they need the help from residents.

The town is conducting a survey to better understand the needs and concerns of residents as they think about open space protection and recreational opportunities and facilities.

The current plan was last adopted in 2010.

“We are looking at how the town treats these important resources, water, lands, forests, wildlife, habitat and how they contribute to our quality of life here in Barnstable,” said Barnstable Planning and Development Director Elizabeth Jenkins.

Once the new plan is developed, it will be submitted to the Massachusetts Division of Conservation Services for approval.

“The state requires us to keep an updated open space and recreation plan every seven years to be eligible for state grant funding,” said Jenkins.

The town held a number of discussion sessions earlier this month to get input from the public and discuss issues relevant to the plan.

The survey is available here through August 15.
