OSTERVILLE – The Town of Barnstable in collaboration with the Osterville Building Association, will host a public meeting in regards to the demolition of the former Osterville Elementary School.

Problems with outdated floor plans, black mold, and structural deficiencies have led to the decision of re-purposing the 5 acres the former school into a community center.

Multiple tennis courts, an athletic field, park, and a playground will also be erected, with tennis facilities being available for use as soon as next summer.

Osterville Elementary was originally constructed in 1915 and had been falling into disrepair until its closure back in 2008.

Plans are also in the works to add additional buildings and structures on the sight when more funding becomes available from the Barnstable Town Council and the Community Preservation Committee.

All work on the site is expected to be completed by mid-December.

Talks will get underway August 15th, beginning at 7:00 PM at the Osterville Village Library’s 2nd Floor meeting room.
