SANDWICH- The July 4thcelebration in Sandwich will carry along with it a special legacy of a former town selectmen.

“It was really like a passion project of former Selectmen Peter Beauchemin. He really led like a grass roots effort to raise money to try and re-establish the fireworks. As many people may know, Peter fought the fight with cancer as best he could and then passed away last December while still in office,” said Bud Dunham, Sandwich Town Manager.

Before the fireworks begin the town is planning to hold a parade, a three mile race, an egg toss, and even a musical picnic.

“Peter would be smiling down from above. I know he was very proud of how well it went last year. I know he was thrilled because before he passed away, he knew that we had found a way to keep the fireworks going for the foreseeable future, if not forever,” Dunham said.

“It was really a special event that the town should be proud of.”

The fireworks display is set to kick off at 10 P.M. over Shawme Pond.
