Tree Worker Sustains Life-threatening Injuries in Chipper Accident

medflightYARMOUTHPORT – A 43-year-old tree worker was medflighted to Rhode Island Hospital today after he was struck in the back by a large branch that kicked out of a wood chipper.

Yarmouth Fire Rescue responded at about 12:15 to 11 Halyard Road in Yarmouthport. The man had been hit by a piece of wood about 1 foot in depth and two feet long.

Based on the injuries and the mechanism that was involved, the injury was deemed to be sufficiently serious to warrant transporting him by plane to Rhode Island Hospital.

The man’s injuries are believed to be life-threatening, according to fire officials.
