Trees Wiped Out Between Exits 2 and 3 on Route 6

road construction02SANDWICH – Motorists on Route 6 in Sandwich will notice that there are barely any trees left in the median between Route 130 and Quaker Meeting House Road.

The state Department of Transportation says the work is designed to remove trees that could present a problem during a winter storm, but one local official says that doesn’t add up.

“I believe that they’re being more aggressive than just taking down the trees that might effect the travel lanes in case of a winter storm,” said State Representative Randy Hunt (R-Sandwich), “It does appear that they’re taking out the entire median, and I worry about what that means for Route 6 going east from exit 3, since we’ve already seen a complete clear cut between exits 2 and 3.”

Hunt has reached out to state officials to try and get an answer on why the trees have been wiped out, and is asking residents to do the same.

Hunt also expressed concern that workers will be too aggressive when removing trees on the south side of the highway, which is adjacent to Service Road.
