HUDSON, Mass. (AP) — A state trooper who died following a crash on the Massachusetts Turnpike is being laid to rest.

A funeral for 44-year-old Thomas Clardy is scheduled for Tuesday at St. Michael Parish in his hometown of Hudson.

A wake for the Marine Corps veteran and father of six was held there Monday.

Clardy had stopped a car for a traffic violation in Charlton on March 16 when his cruiser was hit by another vehicle. Investigators say the car had swerved across all three travel lanes without slowing down.

The driver of that car, 30-year-old David Njuguna, of Webster, remains hospitalized with serious injuries.

He faces a charge of negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a marked lane violation.
