CHATHAM – A Chevy pickup truck drove off the Chatham Fish Pier this morning.

The driver was in the truck when it went into the water around 9 a.m. and was able to get out without any injuries, according to Chatham police.

The man claimed the breaks failed causing the incident, according to Chatham Fire Lieutenant Gerard Smith.

Smith said fire crews deployed an absorbent boom to contain the fluids from the truck.

Town health officials were on scene and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection was notified and was comfortable with how the fire department was handling the hazardous materials situation, according to Smith.

A tow truck removed the pickup from the water around 1 p.m.
