Voters Weigh Options at Truro Town Meeting Today

TRURO – At Truro town meeting today, voters will be considering the purchase of 70 acres of land for $5.1 million.  The future use of the land has not been determined. Use of the property, if purchased, has not been defined.  There have been several options that have been suggested such as open space and recreational areas. The land is known as the Walsh Property.

The Walsh purchase was approved at town meeting in April and would be funded through a long term debt exclusion.

Voters will also be considering a measure to borrow $1 million for environmental remediation efforts at Eagle Neck Creek. A proposal to change the name of the Board of Selectmen to the Select Board is also on the ballot.

Residents will also be asked to approve a debt exclusion with the money going to fund preliminary design and studies for a new district high school in Harwich.

Polls are open until 8 tonight.
