YARMOUTH – Members of the Yarmouth Police Department Proactive Anti-Crime Unit and Drug Enforcement Unit observed an alleged heroin dealer on November 10 identified as John Benevides exiting his Yarmouth home and get into a car despite his license to operate a motor vehicle being revoked.
Yarmouth Police Officers subsequently conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 28 in South Yarmouth and the suspect was placed under arrest. One of the passengers was identified as his girlfriend, Ashley Carr who was found to have two outstanding warrants out of Barnstable and Falmouth District Courts and she was also placed under arrest.
The arrests led to the development of information which led to the issuance of a search warrant for his residence.
At 11:43PM, the search warrant was executed and yielded the following items:
- Eight knotted corner cut baggies with tan powder totaling 41 grams of suspected heroin in glass jar
- Three banded folds of US Currency totaling $2,200.00
- One Digital scale
- One knotted corner cut baggie containing tan powder
- One 100 gram counter weight for scale
- One clear corner cut baggie containing seven round pills scored ‘OP/10’ aka Percocet 10mg
Both suspects were processed at Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters and bail was set at $10,040 for Benevides and $5,040 for Carr.
Both were scheduled for arraignment in the Barnstable District Court.
