Two Men Arrested In Connection With Fatal Shooting in Hyannis

hy061915dHYANNIS – Barnstable Police have arrested two men in connection with the shooting death of a 19 year old man in Hyannis early this morning.

The Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office has confirmed that 24 year old Kyle Jeffrey Walker of South Yarmouth and 19 year old Keven Seme of Brockton were arrested in the parking lot of the International Inn on Main Street Hyannis after entering a car driven by two 17 year old girls.

Walker and Seme are being charged with murder and were expected to be arraigned Friday in Barnstable District Court.

Police say that David Anthony Colon of Hyannis was shot while in a car during an apparent marijuana drug sale around 2 a.m. on Washington Avenue in the area between Birch Street and Charles Street.

The passengers in the car drove Colon to Cape Cod Hospital where he was later pronounced dead just before 11 a.m.

A gun was reportedly recovered from the scene.

District Attorney Michael O’Keefe said that police acted quickly.

“That establishment was under surveillance by police and when they entered the motor vehicle, the motor vehicle was quarantined off and they were arrested at that time,” said O’Keefe.

O’Keefe added that both were taken into custody without incident.

Leah Schmitt lives on the corner from where the incident took place and said she doesn’t feel like it’s a bad neighborhood.

“It saddens me that it happens in the community and I hope no further incidents happen, but I think it’s an isolated incident,” said Schmitt.

“I don’t think we’re setting ourselves up for a crime rampage or anything like that, so I think we’re okay.”

Dorothy Harne, who lives next to where the shooting took place, said her husband was awakened by the sounds of gunfire.

“My husband woke up to a gunshot and what he said to me was that the police officer said that the guy got shot in the head,” said Harne.

Harne believes that her neighborhood is safe, but understands that she has to be cautious.

“It’s just keep your awareness, as I had just said to my daughter, our awareness has to be even more so,” said Harne.

“But other than that, do I have to get something to protect myself? No, because that’s what kills people.”

A gun was reportedly recovered from the scene.

The DA’s office also said that three other people are under arrest for trafficking heroin

A quantity of heroin was seized from the hotel room.

It’s unknown whether the three people arrested in the room were connected to the shooting.

Barnstable Police are continuing to investigate and State Police Detectives have been assigned to the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office.
