FALMOUTH – A traffic stop early Thursday morning on a vehicle that Falmouth police believe was reported as suspicious led to the arrests of two men on numerous gun and drug charges.

James Mase, 21, formerly of Falmouth, and Robert Chapas, 19, of Anchorage, Alaska, were arrested after police said they found an AK-47, Glock 23 handgun, ammunition, brass knuckles, a switch blade knife, four grams of crystal methamphetamine, two methamphetamine pipes and a scale.

Police say they received a call reporting the suspicious vehicle near the Emerson House around 1:45 a.m.

An Officer found a vehicle that matched the description on Route 28 near Bourne’s Farm around 2 a.m. and said the vehicle was stopped for a marked lanes violation.

Another responding officer believed they saw an AK-47 assault rifle in the backseat and both passengers were taken from the vehicle and searched for other weapons.

The Glock 23 handgun was found in the waistband of Mase, who was driving, according to police.

Police said a search of the vehicle uncovered the ammunition, other weapons, drugs and other paraphernalia.

Neither Mase or Chapas were licensed to carry any of the guns found and they face various gun and possession and distribution of methamphetamine charges.
