Two Police Organizations Endorse Rep. Whelan’s Re-election Bid

BREWSTER – Incumbent 1st Barnstable State Representative Tim Whelan has been endorsed by two law enforcement organizations.

The Brewter Republican this week picked up the support of the Massachusetts Coalition of Police (MassCOP) and the New England Police Benevolent Association (NEPBA).

Both unions represent officers in every police department on Cape Cod, including Barnstable, Brewster, Dennis, and Yarmouth, all in the 1st Barnstable District.

“I am humbled to have the support of both the NEPBA and MassCOP”, Whelan said in a statement.

“I have worked closely with the leadership of both unions on important legislation to expand access to mental health supports for first-responders, improve funding for the Municipal Police Training Council, and other important matters…” he said.

His re-election has previously been endorsed by the Massachusetts Nurses Association, Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Correctional Officers Federated Union, and the National Federation of Independent Businesses.

Whelan, a former Massachusetts State Police Trooper, is running against Democrat Steve Leibowitz in the November election.
