Two-Week Shotgun Season for Deer Begins Today

deer_snow_secondaryBARNSTABLE – The state’s two-week shotgun season for deer gets underway today.

Hunting is prohibited on Sundays but the season continues until a half-hour after sunset on December 10.

Public safety officials are asking hunters to wear bright colors and to use caution when entering wooded areas.

Hunting is prohibited within 500 feet of any occupied building or dwelling and 150 feet from hard-surfaced roadways.

On Martha’s Vineyard last year, over 600 deer were taken by hunters.
