Two-Week Shotgun Season for Deer Starts Monday

deer_snow_secondaryHYANNIS – Starting a half-hour before sunrise on Monday is the state’s two-week shotgun season for deer.

Hunting is prohibited on Sundays but the season continues until a half-hour after sunset on December 10.

Public Safety officials are asking participants to wear bright colors and to exercise caution when entering wooded areas.

A minimum of 500 square inches of blaze orange must be worn by hunters on the head, back and chest.

On Martha’s Vineyard last year, over 600 deer were taken by hunters.

Hunting is prohibited within 500 feet of any occupied building or dwelling and 150 feet from hard-surfaced roadways.
