HYANNIS – A bipartisan provision, authored by U.S. Congressman Bill Keating, which will provide vital training resourced to Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) healthcare providers, passed the House floor.
The amendment requires all healthcare providers who work at the VA to complete continuing education courses on pain management, prescription of opioids, and substance abuse.
Keating’s amendment, co-sponsored by Republican congressman Keith Rothfus of Pennsylvania, provides healthcare professionals with the necessary training to combat the increase of substance abuse.
“While we are very fortunate to live in a time where the quality of acute care offered to our military is unparalleled, there is still a need to help our heroes manage their chronic pain safely,” said Congressman Keating.
