PROVINCETOWN – British sculptor Rachel Carter traveled by freighter from Liverpool, England to Provincetown last month to become an Artist-in-Residence at the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum.
The trip reflected the Pilgrims’ journey on the Mayflower nearly 400 years ago.
During her voyage, Carter was cut off from the outside world and documented the experience in a diary.
She is gaining inspiration for her new bronze sculpture, The Pilgrim Woman, which will be completed in 2020 in the United Kingdom.
Before then, visitors can meet with Carter from now until August 25th at the museum.
“People can come into the museum, they can come have a chat with me, they can see some of the experiments that I’ve done, and find out some of the things that are going to inspire the new sculpture,” Carter said.
Outside of the Museum, Carter has enjoyed the local atmosphere as well.
“I’ve already been dipping my feet in the ocean,” Carter said, “which is just amazing.
“It’s such a beautiful place, Provincetown.”
