FALL RIVER – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship is hosting a renewable energy conference this month that is expected to bring together experts in offshore wind and tidal energy.

The second Annual Marine Renewable Energy Conference, entitled Pioneering Ocean Energy Innovation in New England: Wind and Water, will gather experts in offshore wind, wave and tidal energy from government, utility and stakeholder engagement to discuss the state of the implementation of marine renewables.

The conference will also discuss the implications of creating a supply chain ecosystem to drive economic development for the south coast of Massachusetts.

The conference, which is slated to last the entire day, will feature HIS Markit Vice President of Power, Gas, Coal and Renewables Phillipe Frangules, MassCEC Director of Offshore Wind Bruce Carlisle, Technical Manager for the Department of Energy Steven DeWitt.

Panel discussions with industry insiders, government officials and academic researchers will also be taking place.

These experts will discuss the impact of marine renewables on the local economy, how government can spur innovation, current experiences and the economics of starting a renewable energy project, entrepreneurship and the supply chain, and stakeholder engagement.

“We are at the cusp of a marine tech and energy boom here on the SouthCoast and by bringing together experts and practitioners in the field, we are leveraging the assets that will bring about real success in the Blue Economy,” said Executive Director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Phil Adams.

The conference will be held on May 23 at 10:00 a.m. at the UMass Dartmouth Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Fall River.
