BOURNE – Unexpected construction on the Bourne Bridge today has been completed.
The work caused a lane closure coming onto Cape Cod which caused traffic delays.
Bourne police said the lane restriction was put in place due to unanticipated work on an expansion joint that had to be completed.
The closure caused delays in both directions over the bridge, around the Bourne Rotary, and on Scenic Highway and Sandwich Road along the canal.
Delays on Scenic Highway and Sandwich Road approached the Sagamore Bridge, according to motorist reports.
The Bourne Bridge is scheduled to have work done early Tuesday morning from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. that would see three of the four lanes closed.
Traffic would alternate traveling over the bridge.
