BOSTON (AP) — Voters in Massachusetts may again be asked to weigh in on state rules concerning auto maintenance and repairs.
The group known as the Right to Repair coalition filed a proposed ballot question on Tuesday that calls for updating a state law that requires car manufacturers to share diagnostic and repair information with vehicle owners and independent repair shops.
Voters overwhelmingly approved that law in 2012 after an expensive ballot campaign.
The coalition says it needs to be revised to close loopholes resulting from wireless technologies.
In a statement, a spokesman for opponents of the initiative petition said the current law already accounts for technological advances and doesn’t need to be changed.
Wednesday is the deadline for sponsors to submit proposed 2020 ballot questions to the state attorney general for certification.
