US Rep. Joe Kennedy Asked to Speak at Democratic Convention

Joe KennedyBOSTON (AP) — A Kennedy is being added to the list of speakers at the Democratic National Convention.

Massachusetts Congressman Joe Kennedy III said Wednesday he was approached by Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren about speaking before she’s expected to speak Monday, the first night of the convention in Philadelphia.

Warren has been vetted as a possible running mate for presumptive presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Kennedy told reporters he didn’t know exactly when he would be speaking or for how long.

He said he’s certain the Democratic Party can heal the divisions of the primary campaign and come together now that Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders has endorsed Clinton. He said Clinton can provide the strong, steady hand the country needs.

Kennedy is the grandson of Robert Kennedy and nephew of President John F. Kennedy.
