AQUINNAH, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts tribe is partnering with an Oklahoma tribe on a gambling hall on the famous resort island of Martha’s Vineyard.
The Aquinnah Wampanoags announced Wednesday the Chickasaw Nation’s hospitality enterprise, Global Gaming Solutions, will be its development partner.
Tribe chairwoman Cheryl Andrews-Maltais said the Chickasaw Nation is one of the nation’s most financially sound tribes and its Global Gaming Solutions has helped develop more than thirty casinos.
She didn’t provide new details about the planned facility but promised the project would benefit and “blend” in with the broader island community.
The tribe has long proposed a facility with 300 electronic gambling machines but no casino table games like blackjack or roulette.
The U.S. Supreme Court in January declined to take up a legal challenge brought by the state and town.
