Vineyard Wind Hosting Event in Centerville

CENTERVILLE – Vineyard Wind will be hosting an event at The Centerville Library on Thursday to update the public on its plans to build a wind farm off Martha’s Vineyard.

The event is from 4 to 6 p.m. For additional details, or if you are unable to attend but want to learn more, contact Jen Cullen at [email protected].

The project hit a roadblock earlier this month when federal regulators delaying issuing a key environmental impact report.

The company said it’s still committed to building the 800-megawatt wind farm.

Vineyard Wind CEO Lars Pedersen said the company is disappointed it won’t be able to deliver the project on the original timeline.

Pedersen said more than 50 U.S. companies have been awarded a contract or are currently bidding on contracts associated with the 84-turbine wind farm.

Bureau of Ocean Energy Management spokeswoman Connie Gillette said the agency took the action after deciding to include in their analysis projects that have been awarded power purchase agreements, but which may not have submitted construction plans.
