NEW BEDFORD – Vineyard Wind has named the preferred turbine supplier for its 800-megawatt wind farm south of Martha’s Vineyard.

The project is expected to include 84 units of MHI Vestas Offshore Wind’s V-164-9.5 megawatt wind turbine.

The turbine was named Best Offshore Turbine 2017 by Windpower Monthly Magazine.

“MHI Vestas shares Massachsuetts’ strategic commitment to affordable offshore wind power and sustainable energy solutions that will benefit future generations,” said Lars Pedersen, the CEO of Vineyard Wind.

“By driving down the cost of energy through reliable wind turbine technology, MHI Vestas is the perfect partner for our company and the Commonwealth.”

The project continues to move through the permitting process with construction expected to begin in 2019.
