Vineyard Wind Seeking Input From Fishing Industry

MARTHA’S VINEYARD – The UMass Dartmouth’s School for Marine Science and Technology will hold the final of four workshops where the school gets members of the fishing industry together to discuss the impacts offshore wind development will have on the industry.

The meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 3rd at the West Tisbury Library at 1042 State Road on The Vineyard.

The meetings are a collaboration between UMAss and Vineyard Wind, the company planning to build an 800 megawatt wind farm 14 miles south of The Vineyard. Input the school receives will be used to inform future developers about potential issues in permitting and public policy.

The fishing industry has raised concerns about offshore wind development and the effect on fish stocks. UMAss seeks to collect a large body of information to benefit the development of future offshore wind projects.

The prior meetings were held in New Bedford, Chatham and Kingston, Rhode Island.
