BREWSTER – Brewster voters at special town meeting this week approved articles effectively ending spending on the Wing Island boardwalk project.

The initiative would have installed a new walkway to the island across conserved marshland where currently there is a narrow strip of two-by-fours.

Advocates for the project highlighted the extra walking space and safety provided by a new construction, while opponents said the work could disturb the sensitive conservation area.
