Wall-Raising Set for Habitat For Humanity Homes in Marstons Mills

MARSTONS MILLS-  Habitat for Humanity has set a date for the formal wall raising ceremony for four new homes in Marstons Mills.

“There are four houses, and during the ceremony we’ll be raising two ends of the house for each home. Then the future owner of the home will be there working that day with the community volunteers. We will say a few words, we’ll bless the home, and then move on to the next home,” said Vikki Goldsmith, Executive Director for Habitat.

The homes will sit on a newly named road in honor of the late Donald S. Dickinson of Sandwich, who had been a long-time dedicated volunteer and donor for Habitat of Cape Cod.

“The land itself was identified by Habitat. It was on the market, the Town Of Barnstable supported the purchase through federal community development block grant funds. The town is also supporting it with some CPC and affordable housing trust funds, and then the balance of the funding is being contributed privately,” Goldsmith said.

The four 3 bedroom homes will be sold for $147,750 each, and the deed will be restricted to be affordable in perpetuity upon future resale, which would be restricted to income-eligible buyers.

The event will take place on June 9th at 8:15 on Dickinson Road.

The public is invited to attend.
