MASHPEE – The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe is seeking to bring awareness of issues surrounding its land sovereignty.
The federal government ruled last month that land cannot be held in federal trust. That decision has dealt a near-fatal blow to the tribe’s plan to build a casino resort in Taunton.
As part of the effort to bring attention to the ruling, the tribe is holding a march and rally on Saturday morning.
The event will include speakers and a pot luck and the public is encouraged to attend, it begins Saturday morning at 10 at the Mashpee Community Park.
Participants will then march to the Tribe’s Powwow Grounds.
