BARNSTABLE – A Cape Cod man who was recently added to the State Police Top Ten Most Wanted list was captured by U.S. Marshals Tuesday morning in Tarpon Springs, Florida.

William Benton, 22, skipped a scheduled court date after he was arrested for allegedly stabbing another man at a Yarmouth home on April 18.

The victim needed emergency surgery after suffering life-threatening wounds.

Benton was arrested by Yarmouth police and charged with attempted murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after he ran from the scene.

Benton is also suspected of firing a gun at another man during an argument at Keyes Memorial Beach in Hyannis in May of 2014.

There were no injuries in the incident and Benton was arrested on firearms charges and assault charges by Barnstable Police.

He was added to the State Police Ten Most Wanted List on June 1.

Benton will be brought back to Massachusetts in the near future.

The arrest was the result of a two-month investigation by members of the Yarmouth Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and the U.S. Marshal Service.

Benton was living in Mashpee during the time of his alleged crimes and has ties throughout Cape Cod.
