Waquoit Bay Reserve Announces 2019 Spring Volunteer Opportunities

Waquoit Bay in Falmouth is part of the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve.

FALMOUTH – The Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve has announced its Spring 2019 Volunteer Voice opportunities.

On Friday, May 17, the reserve will be hosting a spring cleanup at the Visitor Center. Bring along your garden gloves and your green thumb as volunteers and reserve staff will be sprucing up the outside of the center before the busy summer season. The cleanup begins at 10:00 a.m.

Volunteers can also take part in the reserve’s Oyster Aquaculture project.

The reserve and partners are involved in a two-year study looking at oyster aquaculture and water quality. They’re looking for one additional volunteer to assist with the care of the oyster demonstration site on a weekly basis. The demonstration site mimics as the research site and has been set up to educate the public about oyster aquaculture.

Waquoit Bay also encourages volunteers to attend one of its upcoming training sessions. The first session, Working with the Public: First Time Volunteer Training, will be held on Monday, June 3.
