Wareham Police Arrest Would-Be Bank Robber Following Tip

wareham-bankWAREHAM – A Wareham man is under arrest after allegedly trying to rob the Rockland Trust on Cranberry Highway Tuesday afternoon.

Police say they were tipped off to the planned robbery by an anonymous source early Tuesday morning.

Officers trailed 67-year-old Robert Murphy into the bank and arrested him after he passed a note to the teller, demanding money. The note told the teller to hand over cash to over anyone being harmed, according to police.

Murphy has been charged with unarmed assault with intent to rob.
